Foot and Ankle News covers the business of the foot and ankle industry — without the corporate filter.
Products. People. Deals. Acquisitions. Lawsuits. Rep moves. Quarterly numbers. Rumors.
Our roots go back to 2011, when Foot and Ankle Blog was launched from a hotel room during the AOFAS Annual Meeting in Miami. The idea was simple: there was a lot happening in the foot and ankle industry that never made it into the trade publications or company press releases. Someone should be talking about it.
So we started a blog.
It existed. We wrote it. A few people even read it.
Then COVID hit.
With meetings canceled, travel shut down, and the industry suddenly communicating almost entirely through screens and inboxes, we changed the format. In 2020, the blog became an email newsletter and Foot and Ankle News was born.
Turns out, putting the news directly into people's inboxes worked.
FAN quickly found an audience among sales reps, surgeons, executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and others across the foot and ankle industry.
The format changed. The audience grew. The idea stayed the same.
What We Cover
FAN follows the companies, products, people, and money moving the foot and ankle industry.
That means new product launches and emerging technologies. Mergers and acquisitions. FDA news. Lawsuits and patent battles. Executive changes. Sales rep moves. Earnings reports. Startups. Industry rumors. And occasionally something that is simply too interesting not to publish.
Some stories come from public filings and press releases. Others come from conversations happening throughout the industry.
We try to separate what we know from what we're hearing — but we aren't afraid to talk about both.
Independent by Design
Foot and Ankle News isn't the communications department for anyone.
We like innovative companies. We like interesting products. We like entrepreneurs willing to take a shot at building something new. But nobody gets to approve what we write about them.
That's kind of the point.
FAN ran for two years without taking a dollar from anyone. When that changed in 2022, we said this:
The ads will be obvious, and we will never sell out our journalistic integrity (if you even consider this journalism) when it comes to the promotion of device reviews and opinions.
Sponsors buy attention, not coverage.
FAN exists to make the foot and ankle industry a little more transparent, a little more connected, and hopefully a lot more interesting to read about.
Why the Bigfoot?
Long story.
But after all these years, he's earned his spot.
Have a Story?
This industry isn't that big. Someone always knows something.
If there's a launch coming, a deal brewing, a company changing direction, a new technology worth seeing, or a story FAN should be following, we want to hear about it.
Tips and sources are always welcome — and discretion comes standard.
