New Product Launches @ AOFAS
Traditionally, new foot and ankle products are launched by industry at the two biggest meeting’s of the year - ACFAS and AOFAS. This year was no different, so we figured we would highlight a few that we found here, since the virtual convention center was a little different than the usual spectacle we see on display at the Summer meeting.
Last week we talked about Wright Medical’s Adaptis Technology and the recently cleared APEX Total Ankle launched by Paragon 28. Here are a couple more:
Stryker
Stryker launched two products they desperately needed to fill their bag…if they did not just purchase Wright Medical. Obviously these projects were in the works and had to be completed one way or another and they could very well be better than the current Wright offerings.
The overlap of Wright and Stryker extremity product lines is significant, and it will be interesting to see what brands stick around or simply co-exist. That’s an article for another day.

DePuy Synthes
Synthes acquisition of Akros Medical and their Fibulink syndesmosis device is their first big announcement in Foot and Ankle since the BME deal a few years back. Adding a syndesmosis implant makes a ton of sense for a trauma company that sells thousands and thousands of ankle fracture plates, unfortunately they are about 15 years late to the game.
Fibulink will struggle to take a significant amount of market share from Arthrex as it appears to have some fiddle factor and it also leaves hardware behind. On a positive note, it at least gives the Synthes reps an opportunity to swipe back some of those cases from Arthrex or Wright and may encourage them to further explore the space.
